๐Ÿง„ Patty Melts with Secret Sauce โ€“ Crispy, Juicy & Full of Flavor

๐Ÿ“ Ingredients

For the Patty Melts:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter + extra for toasting
  • 8 slices rye or sourdough bread
  • 8 slices Swiss or American cheese

For the Secret Sauce:

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp pickle relish (or chopped pickles)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Optional: dash of hot sauce

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ Instructions

1๏ธโƒฃ Make the sauce: In a bowl, mix mayo, ketchup, mustard, relish, garlic powder, and paprika. Chill while you prep the melts.

2๏ธโƒฃ Caramelize onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter and sautรฉ onions for 15โ€“20 minutes, stirring often, until soft and golden brown. Set aside.

3๏ธโƒฃ Form 4 thin beef patties roughly the size of your bread slices. Season with salt and pepper.

4๏ธโƒฃ In the same skillet, cook patties over medium-high heat for 3โ€“4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Set aside.

5๏ธโƒฃ Assemble the patty melts:

  • Spread secret sauce on each bread slice.
  • Layer with cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese. Top with the second bread slice.

6๏ธโƒฃ Grill sandwiches: In a clean skillet or griddle, melt a little butter. Toast each sandwich for 2โ€“3 minutes per side over medium heat, pressing down slightly, until golden and melty.

7๏ธโƒฃ Slice and serve hot with extra sauce for dipping!
