These hamburger steaks are tender, flavorful beef patties pan-seared and then simmered in a silky onion gravy. Served over mashed potatoes or rice, it’s the ultimate stick-to-your-ribs dinner!

For the Hamburger Steaks:
πŸ₯© 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
πŸ₯š 1 large egg
🍞 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
πŸ§… 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
🌿 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
πŸ§„ 1/2 tsp garlic powder
πŸ§‚ Salt & pepper to taste

For the Onion Gravy:
🧈 2 tbsp unsalted butter
πŸ§… 1 large onion, thinly sliced
πŸ₯„ 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
πŸ₯£ 2 cups beef broth
🌿 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
πŸ§‚ Salt & pepper to taste
🌿 Optional: fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

1️⃣ Mix the Patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form into 4 patties.

2️⃣ Cook the Patties:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of oil and cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add sliced onions and sautΓ© for 8–10 minutes until golden and soft.

4️⃣ Thicken the Gravy:
Sprinkle flour over onions and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3–5 minutes.

5️⃣ Simmer with the Steaks:
Return patties to skillet and spoon gravy over them. Cover and simmer for 10–12 minutes until fully cooked through.

6️⃣ Serve Hot:
Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice. Spoon plenty of onion gravy on top and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
