🍫 Old-Fashioned Swiss Chocolate Cake Recipe 🇨🇭

Layered, luscious, and dripping in silky ganache — this classic Swiss cake is pure chocolate indulgence!

⭐ Ingredients:

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup hot brewed coffee (enhances chocolate flavor!)

For the Vanilla Cream Filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

🍰 Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, alternating with milk and coffee, until smooth.
  5. Divide batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool completely on a wire rack.

🍮 Make the Vanilla Cream Filling:

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks.
  2. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla. Let cool completely before using.

🍫 Make the Ganache:

  1. Heat heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering.
  2. Pour over chocolate chips and let sit for 2–3 minutes. Stir until smooth. Add butter and mix.

🎂 Assemble the Cake:

  1. Place the first cake layer on a serving plate. Spread half of the vanilla cream filling evenly on top.
  2. Add second cake layer and spread remaining cream.
  3. Top with final cake layer and pour ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
  4. Chill for 20 minutes to set, then slice and serve! 🍴
